Happy Birthday, Sophie!

Oh my goodness!  You’re 1!  I can hardly believe it!  What an exciting month we’ve had!

We celebrated Mommy’s birthday earlier in the month.  We went to dinner, as usual, with your Aunties from the LSC

And then we came home and gave Mommy her cake.  You really wanted to touch those candles but held off just long enough for Mama to practically throw the cake at Mommy  to get it away from your little fingers!

We also went to Midtown Global market this month.  Some of the music teachers from your music class were doing a show.  You sat with Mommy and danced around.  It was so much fun!

You even got to spend some time with Aunt Enny this month.  She loves to come and spend time with you, and you love having her come play with you!

This month you started using a straw like a pro (you've been using a straw since you were about three months old, but I think you've got it mastered now!).  You love to drink anything that has a straw coming out, although you’re not too interested in your sippy cup with a straw – adult drinks only, I guess.  ;-)

You are becoming more interested in books.  I keep hoping you’ll love them as much as I do, but you only take them in small doses at this point.

You love Ellie and she loves you…most of the time.  You love to look at her, pet her, and love her up.

You got a new toy cell phone for your birthday.  You love to talk into it, but the other day I looked over and you were doing this…

Taking selfies at 1 year old!  Oy.

You love food.  You still love cheese and eat it all the time, but you also have decided that grapes are pretty awesome.

You want to try everything we do which I’m usually thankful for.

This month you tried toast,

A pickle,

And spaghetti among other things.  I think you gave them all a thumbs up.

You also had your first taste of Mormon Funeral Potatoes.  You took one bite and clapped enthusiastically.

You continue to love your doll

And your monkey

But really you’ll take just about any stuffed animal that’s around.  There is no shortage of hugs at our house.

You also love playing with the vintage turtle Grandpa and Grandma Ricks found on Ebay for you!

While you don’t rip your clothes off you would much prefer to play around in your diaper

You DO NOT like hats.  I feel like I’ve said this before.  Every month. But seriously.  You don’t.  I took you to Party City to get some supplies for your birthday party and saw this adorable 1st Birthday hat.  I put it on your head, and, well…

Uh, yeah.  You continued to cry for at least 5 minutes after the last photo.  You basically cried until we came across some stuffed bears, one of which the employee decided she just HAD to buy for you.  So we left with pink table covering and a large stuffed bear.

You threw your first true temper tantrum this month.  You were kneeling on your blanket and wanted to move it.  You got pretty upset when you couldn’t figure out why your blanket wouldn’t move.

I can’t believe it’s already been a year, my dear, sweet, Sophie.  What a wild ride it’s been.  So many new and exciting things, happy moments that made me want to burst and scary times that made me love and appreciate you all the more.

Mommy and I wanted you for so long before you came and we worked very hard to get everything ready.  And then you were here with us and in what seemed like no time at all it felt as if you had always been with us.

We are the two luckiest moms in the world to have such a beautiful, smart, and funny little lady such as yourself.  We love you to the moon and back, Sophie, and can’t wait to see what the future holds for our little family.

Saddest Thing Ever...

When Mommy left this morning you kept looking at the door and doing the sign for "more."

Birthday Party!

We celebrated your birthday party a few days early.  It was such a good time!  We had the party at the Lake Nokomis Community Center, and it was a gorgeous, warm day for it!  We are lucky to have so many friends and family who were able to make it (and thanks to Aunt Enny for taking such great photos!)!

Happy Birthday, my dear Sophie!
