17 Months!

Whoa, Baby - we had one busy month this month (welcome to summer, right?)!

We decided to go on a weekend trip for Mother's Day this year and headed to Rochester.

We stayed in a weird hotel (with a completely empty, weird pool), but you loved the huge room, and spent a good portion of your time in the hotel room running around and around!

We went to all of Mama's old stomping grounds.  It was the first time I had been back in 10 years, and it felt a little...strange.

We gave Mommy your gift...the updated "card book" as well as a printed book of the first year of this blog.

It was nice to be away, but, as always, it was nice to get back home.

We spent a lot of time outside this month,

And you and I went to the Como Zoo together!

You loved exploring the Japanese Garden and seeing all the beautiful flowers in the conservatory.  You especially loved any red or yellow flowers.

You fell in love with the giraffes, especially the baby giraffe, and cried when it was time to go check out the rest of the zoo!

You discovered your shadow during this trip.  You kept trying to chase it, and I kept worrying you were going to fall down!

Your second favorite animal at the zoo was the buffalo.

If this is how you are in the car on the way home, I consider it a successful trip!

We went to the Children's Museum again,

And you went to a concert with Mommy and Jenny at Community of Peace Academy,

We went to the park a few times,

And we went to Teddy's first birthday party!

Our neighborhood had a festival which was really fun!  You fell in love with the chickens.  I think you pretty much love anything with feathers/fur that moves.

We met a lovely horse...who slobbered all over me, but it was worth it to give you the "up close and personal experience"!

You got a little help making some music with our neighbor, Maddie!

And were even brave enough to sit still for your very first (temporary) tattoo!

We even got to take in a little music!  It was a great time - can't wait to go again next year!

We went to dinner with friends,

And you got to spend some time with the Harris' again this month.  You and Mommy get together a lot with them during the summer, and you love it!

And finally, this month found us back in the ER with you.  You had been feeling sick for a few days and hadn't had a wet diaper for several hours, so into the hospital we went.  They had us sit around for awhile and gave you a Popsicle, which you loved, and then they sent us on our way.

You were feeling better shortly after, which we were all very happy about.  It's so hard to see you not feeling well!

Great Grandma passed away this month.  We had tickets to head home for her funeral but due to you being sick and Mama and Mommy getting sick too we were unable to go.  :(  I'm so happy you got to meet her in January and she, you.  She loved you to pieces, and you adored her.

This month you got a package in the mail from Aunt Cassi, Uncle Nic, and Cousin Max!  You loved the box so much you didn't even want to open it.  You finally let me help, though, and we found a quiet book inside!  I think we both were thrilled.  Thanks Cassi, Nic, and Max!

You also got another gift this month (who knew that turning 17 months was such a big deal?!?) from Aunt Robyn, Uncle Dejan, and Cousin Kord...

Someone is a lucky lady!  Thanks Robyn, Dejan, and Kord!  This will be a lifesaver on our upcoming road trip!

As for things you like, you often Skype or FaceTime with people at dinner, during your bath, or just anytime you or Mommy are bored and have nothing else to do but call people and chat (I wish I was bored and had nothing else to do!).  You especially love to call your Aunt Enny!

You absolutely adore Nana.  You won't be going there much this summer, and I know you'll miss her terribly.  I love, love, love pulling up to pick you up and seeing you in the window.  It makes my heart sing!

You love Ellie, and I think she kind of likes you too :)

You are able to make a mess in two seconds flat these days, and are infamous for saying "uh oh" despite the fact that you've done it on purpose!

You love to imitate mamas and try as hard as you can to do everything we do.  If we are cleaning, you want to clean.  If we are folding laundry, you want to help.  It's absolutely adorable, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  You have also, however, decided that pretending to be a baby is also quite fun and often put your doll's pacifier in your mouth.

You continue to love to play with your computer (and yes, we still use the johnny jump up...I realize that we are nearing the end of being able to use it, but you just love it so much!),

And you love to have us push you around in whatever box-like thing is sitting around including (but not limited to) a laundry basket, a box,

Or your blocks wagon!

You also think it's pretty awesome to act like mamas, and you put on our shoes all the time!  You also love to take your own shoes off all the time.  On, off, on, off.  You usually even get them back on the right feet in the end!

You love the giraffe that Aunt Ang got you at the zoo in Sioux Falls,

And you have been on the look out for "benches" that are just your size.

After Mama put your tree tent away, we put some blankets over the coffee table.  You took to it just fine, the the blankets hung around for a couple of weeks!  You loved crawling in there to eat your snack or read to your babies!

As for food, you continue to be an awesome eater.  You are willing to try anything we put in front of you!  I realize there are an exorbitant number of pictures of you eating, but sometimes it's the only time we can get you to sit still enough to take a picture!  Some of your favorite foods this month include spaghetti (even though it makes a big mess!),

Mac and cheese,

Corn on the cob,

Ice cream (you are your mother's daughter, after all!),

And soup!

You have this habit of crossing your fingers when you eat (I absolutely adore it),

And you're starting to show a little toddler-like behavior...like when I opened and stirred your yogurt.

Just like I do

Every.  Single.  Day.  Somehow it became inedible and you were furious.

You played with a story-telling Care Bear that Grandpa and Grandma sent you...until you stuck your finger in his moving mouth and then cried (more out of fear than pain, I believe).  You haven't gone near the finger-eating bear since!

You absolutely HATE brushing your teeth.  It's a struggle every day.  I should clarify - if we just let YOU brush your teeth you love it, but once we dive in to do a thorough cleaning the mouth clamps shut and the huge tears start rolling.

Whew!  I told you it was a busy month with lots of stuff to share!  It has been an awesome one, though, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store for us!  We love you, sweet Sophie, and love watching you learn and grow every day.
